Day 4

"Transformation is not a future event."

I'm not entirely sure what that means, but Jillian Michaels spoke those words at a moment when I was vulnerable and I took them to heart.  It still doesn't help the fact I'm as sore as a...well, person who's really sore.  I suck at metaphors.

Metaphorically speaking.

Wait that doesn't work there.  But I digress...

Workouts

Ok I've been stalling for a reason.  Despite my best intentions, I was simply too sore to work out today.  Actually it was Bob's idea.  He calls the shots, after all, and he decided I was too sore to work out.  And for once I think he was right.  I knew I wouldn't be able to perform the push ups and leg work without looking like a 90 year old bus driver. I'm not sure exactly what that means but just go with it.  What I did accomplish was some walking at work and over an hour of house cleaning/tidying up.  And...

Eating

...I ate very well.  The morning choice was a Starbucks breakfast sandwich.  350 calories and it lasted me until lunch when I had some fresh pineapple and pistachios.  For dinner I made a nice salad although I didn't have any protein to add to it.  Before I went to bed I made a casein protein shake.  My only cheat item was a few flavor ices.
Summary

A fairly uneventful day (and blog...my apologies!).  I have my earliest shift of the week tomorrow (5:45am) so the scale will probably be a bit high and the workouts won't start until my afternoon nap.

Day 3

Starting Weight: 206.6 lbs                                                                                                   Summer Weight Goal: 190 lbs
Daily Weight: 203.5 lbs                                                                                                       Weight Left to Goal: 13.5 lbs
Average Daily Weight per Week: 204.8 lbs

Day 3

I lost another pound in a day.  Not surprising since I anticipated this, but it's definitely a step in the right direction.

Workouts

I felt sore from yesterday, but I was able to finish day 2 of Jillian Michael's week 1 workout.  However, despite my best efforts including begging, pleading, name calling, and minor physical abuse, I could not coax myself out of bed an hour early for yoga.  I knew my subconscious, who I feel must be named due to his obvious power over the rest of me, was laughing at my initial plan to wake up early on the mornings I go to work.  But he let me continue on with the abstract belief there was any chance I would be successful.  Maybe I should name him Lucifer.

Or Margaret

Eating

I had a naked breakfast burrito at work.  It wasn't a perfect choice, but without the tortilla I feel it was reasonable.  I had strawberries at lunch and some almonds.  For dinner I had a date night at a Thai restaurant.  It seemed healthy and I drank 3 glasses of water instead of my usual beer or soda.  I did have a few vodka club soda's with some movie watching later.
Summary

Day 3 in the books.  The next two days will be a struggle due to my early morning work schedule.  Every little bit helps, though, and I'll keep doing my best with each daily decision.  Once again, it's a marathon, not a sprint.  Although I'm already developing a side cramp and I'm thirsty.

Oh and I've decided to name my subconscious, "Bob."

'Cause, why not?

Day 2

Starting Weight: 206.6 lbs                                                                                                   Summer Weight Goal: 190 lbs
Daily Weight: 204.2 lbs                                                                                                       Weight Left to Goal: 14.2 lbs
Average Daily Weight per Week: 205.4 lbs

Day 2

As I suspected, I lost 2.4 lbs.  I'm happy, but not surprised.  I know tomorrow I'll probably be in the low 203's or even 202.  That's great, but the real test will be when I hit the brick wall and every 0.10 of weight lost will be a struggle.  But, this is a marathon, not a sprint.

Workouts

I began this morning with 10 minutes of yoga.  I would like to say if felt good and mind cleansing, but honestly I struggled from the first stretch.  Part of it was being stiff from sleeping, but the more disappointing part was I'm out of shape and extremely tight.  Every stretch was a chore and I only made it to Warrior 1 before I called it quits.  I didn't want to over-do it and pull something.  Plus it accomplished its goal, to get the blood flowing and wake me up.  I look forward to trying this again tomorrow morning at 6:00am before work.

At noon I began day one of Jillian Michaels Get Ripped in 30.  I did a few of these after I finished Insanity back in February, and this particular exercise was barely useful to me.  However, after being mostly sedentary for the better part of 4 months, I barely made it.  Pushups?  Joke.  Biceps curls whilst lunging...really?  Fast feet?  Nauseous feet.  I could barely reach up to turn off my Xbox one when I was finished.  My tongue couldn't tell if it was sweat or tears that was flowing onto my lips.  But I knew.  Sweat doesn't taste like disappointment and embarrassment.  But I made it!

Eating

Another wonderful omelette.  3 egg whites, mushrooms, black olives, 2 halved cherry tomatoes, 1 tbsp olive oil, sliced almonds coated in sea salt and pepper, and seasonings (I used dried basil, crushed red peppers, and salt and pepper on the eggs).   I did have a vodka club soda at the end of the evening, but still clocked in under 1,500 calories.
Summary

Over all I feel a successful day two.  I'm going to try waking up early tomorrow and getting some Yoga in if I'm not too sore, or tired, or cranky, or melancholy, or...

Day 1 (Sort've)

Starting Weight: 206.6 lbs                                                                                                   Summer Weight Goal: 190 lbs
Daily Weight: 206.6 lbs                                                                                                       Weight Left to Goal: 16.6 lbs
Average Daily Weight per Week: 206.6 lbs

Day One

And we're off!  I'm feeling excited today to implement my mission statement.  However, this morning I spent a good hour trying to organize my yoga daily workout, so I decided to begin tomorrow with the workouts.  This very well could be a subconscious stall tactic.  My subconscious is wily, like me, and I need to keep a close eye one him (or more likely...her).  However, he DID reason that my weekly rest day can be on Sunday which is the roughest workday of the week for me (waking up at 4:30am).  So I give him a pass, this time.

I weighed in at 206.6, slightly higher than my prediction, but close enough to where I wasn't surprised.  Since this isn't my first rodeo, I can predict the rest of the week.  The weight will start bleeding off fast.  Every day for a week I'll be down between 1-2 lbs and I'll be thinking, "I'm really really good at this!"  After calling Oprah (leaving a message, of course) and trying to find sponsors, I'll fall back into reality hell.  My weight will stabilize around 201 and the rest of the way will be a demonstration of patience, determination, and meltdowns.  There will be days of frustration.  There may also be nights of bubble baths, candles, Kenny G, and hugging a pillow while I cry myself to sleep.  Typical Friday for me, really...

I did great with food today, so this day is already a success.  I clocked in under 1500 calories and even invented a new omelette and impromptu salad dressing; it's amazing what you can do with dijon mustard, olive oil, vinegar and seasonings.  A good chunk of my caloric intake today, however, was from that dressing due to the olive oil.  But, as my lovely girlfriend tells me, it's good for me!  So if I'm pushed over my 1500 calorie goal by something that's good for me, so be it.

I also walked about 4 miles at work which is a start.  Tomorrow I won't forget my FitBit when I head to work!

Thanks for reading.  More tomorrow!

The beginning of my journey...

Welcome

Hello readers (if there are any)...

I'm not sure if I will give anyone my blog address, or if this is solely an exercise to keep me motivated through the summer to get into shape, and stay that way!

Mission Statement

I'll update my weight once a day starting tomorrow.  My prediction is 205, but regardless I'm shooting to be around 200 by the beginning of week 2.  If this requires a ceremonial removal of an extremity, so be it.  My first big milestone will be to weigh 190, then I'll evaluate my next goal, but ultimately I'd like to be in the mid 180's.  However, it's not all about weight and if anything I want to be more healthy (said nobody ever...my real goal is to be on a Men's Health Magazine cover).

For the first month I will be doing some yoga in the mornings (basically the first 20 minutes of yoga x from p90x).  In the afternoons I'll be working out to Jillian Michaels Get Ripped DVD (30 days long, 4 stages).  I'll be wearing my FitBit every day and will be aiming for at least 10,000 steps daily.  I'll weigh myself with my FitBit Aria scale daily.  After a week break I will be replacing Get Ripped with the Insanity program.  I'll use these DVD's for one more month or half of Insanity.

After a week break I will be starting p90x3.

Once finished I will begin p90x.

Finally I'll end with p90x2.

Nutritionally I'll aim for 1500 calories per day which I'll keep track of on myfitnesspal.com.  I'll also keep drinking to a minimum, however it's unrealistic to completely stop drinking during the summer. Fortunately my hangovers are legendary so that always deters me from trying to break any drinking records Motley Crue set on any given night.  Having said that, I'll avoid drinking in excess and only drink once or twice a week.

Final Thoughts

Thanks for following along with me (assuming I invited you, or anyone for that matter!).  May you enjoy watching me slowly change my lifestyle and health for the better.
